STADIUM TOWER OPENS
Olympic Stadium for locals and tourists alike
Strong emotions, atmosphere, shared experiences underpin the Olympic Stadium services – rightly so as the demand for comprehensive experiences will grow in the future. The new Stadium, the Tower and the tours inspired by stories will provide the visitors with a more profound experience of the Stadium that belongs to all of us.
The Tower of the Stadium is an icon in its own right. It has been a venue for falling in love – according to the wartime legend, the spark flared in the Tower between a “Lotta”, member of the Finnish women's auxiliary services and an air defence serviceman – for popping the question and even for celebrating the wedding. No wonder, since the Tower offers the best view to admire Helsinki. Especially the light-spotted cityscape over the Helsinki in the dusk is very impressive.
These views reopen for admirers on 31 August. The visits to the Tower are organised with due consideration of the Covid-19 challenges, and for safety reasons and for now, only 10 visitors are admitted at the same time. The 30 min visit to the Tower offers the excitement of the all-around views over Helsinki.
Open views to Helsinki
Helsinki is a city traditionally attracting visitors interested in design and architecture. Alvar Aalto, the Finnish Jugendstil and marvellous functionalist buildings, such as the Olympic Stadium, are attractions also reflected in Helsinki visitor profiles.
“It is quite exceptional that so close to the city centre, we still have part of the Olympics history in its original use. Finland is among the smallest countries ever hosting the Olympics and a mesh in the interesting sports history network. The splendidly renewed, pure representative of the functionalist architecture will remain a significant element of the Helsinki offer”, CEO Laura Aalto of Helsinki Marketing points out.
“Well designed constructions will outlast the passing of the years! Historical stratification is part of urban life and a living city is never really complete. The Stadium is a magnificent example of further development of a site with due respect for the old element”, Aalto concludes.
